The Granite Surface Plate
This is a granite surface plate that weighs about 40
pounds. These plates are guaranteed to be perfectly flat, sometimes to millionths
of an inch for the very expensive ones. This is a cheap one which is flat only to a
few ten thousanths but more than adequate for my needs. I find it very useful
when I want to sand something flat. It's just large enough so that a full sheet of
sand paper fits nicely on it and it's heavy enough not to move around.
