Ray Rogers Handcrafted Knives

All of the Mt. Baker knives are fairly large with an overall length of about 13 1/2 inches. This one has an 8" hollow ground stainless damascus blade in Raindrop Pattern. I have added some filework to the back of the blade.

The turquoise bound handle is one large piece of ivory, very clean, very white, with the subtle patterns in it that make ivory so beautiful. It feels almost mystically warm to the touch.

The most unusual feature to this knife, in my opinion, are the guards and butt cap. The gentleman that ordered this knife requested that they be made from pure silver. These guards are 3/8ths inch thick solid (.999 pure, not sterling) silver as is the butt cap. Before I could make them I had to learn to make molds and cast silver. Silver is a very heavy material and this knife has a lot of it so the handle feels extremely solid.

I'm not the world's best sheath maker but I made a sheath for this knife of the standard style I make for all the Mt. Baker's. Of course, I had to try to make it somewhat fancier than usual. There is some decorative stitching, all done by hand and also a cobra skin inlay on the front of the sheath. The final touch was to replace the snap cap of the retaining strap with a genuine 1925 Liberty head dime - a silver one, naturally.
